Making the headlines

NANTWICH Walled Garden Society received unprecedented Press coverage in the week ending October 21, 2006. We have had excellent coverage in the past but in the week in which Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council refused planning permission for the development that Jennings wanted to carry out in the garden, all three local papers came up trumps for us.

We made the front page of all three - and the Sentinel's Cheshire edition had a full-page comment feature the following evening - while on the Nantwich Chronicle's letters pages, correspondents wrote favourable letters. The Editor also had us as one of his two comments. Letters had appeared in a previous week's edition.

In Nantwich afterwards, "It looks like the garden has been saved" was a typical comment.

Our thanks to the local newspapers and residents for their interest and support in our fight to save the garden.
